Notes on this conversion
Extracting a table from a PDF means locating it in a page that records only ink positions. Detection keys on ruling lines: a table drawn with visible borders converts accurately, while a table aligned with whitespace alone is not recognised as a table at all, and its page falls back to a single column of text. A scanned PDF has neither ruling lines nor a text layer, so the conversion stops with an error rather than returning an almost empty sheet.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the spreadsheet contain rows like "=== Page 1, Table 1 ==="?
Every table found is written under a marker row naming its page and position, because one PDF can hold several. Delete the marker rows once the tables have been separated.
Can a scanned PDF be converted?
No. A scanned page is an image with no table structure and no text layer, so the conversion stops with an error. A PDF that carries a text layer is required.
Why will the numbers not sum?
Every cell is written as text, plain figures included, so a column can look numeric without being numeric. Convert the columns needed for calculation after opening the file. Merged cells also arrive flattened, and a table spanning pages brings its header along on each one.
