A .ppt is the pre-2007 binary PowerPoint format and is converted to .pptx before being read. After that hop each slide becomes a section: the slide title becomes the heading, bullets keep their outline depth, and speaker notes are appended as a quote. Older decks often relied on manually placed text boxes rather than layout placeholders, and text placed that way has no defined role — it still appears, but not necessarily as a title or a bullet. Positions, animations and transitions are not carried across.
